~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm ronery...oh so ronery....
I knew this week was going to come, but I never had any idea just howdull it was going to be. I've been by myself in this office for half an hour and I'm already going nuts with boredom in addition to already having failed to help a client (I don't know anything about anything, so there's really not much I can tell these poor folks when they ask me stuff). God only knows how Marilen did this for 5 friggin' years by herself....
On the plus side, I'll be getting a sizable paycheck this week. Mainly because I have no choice but to come in at exactly 10:00 and stay till 5:00...or is it 5:30....I'll have to call and ask about that one...
With regard to the paycheck, I'm not even super thrilled about that. I know I'm just going to blow the whole thing on comics and Take 5 bars...perhaps the occasional new skein of yarn....I'm really just breaking even with this job thing. As soon as I have money, I decide it's time to spend it. The only way I've been able to maintain my nice healthy checking account is by not having a job and living off of birthday money for miscelaneous expenses (food and rent are thankfully not things I've ever had to think about).
Apart from work, my stack of books has grown out of control. I have so many books now that I feel like I'm behind on something. I still want to read The Barrytown Trilogy, but now there's On The Road to contend with. And what about Catch 22? Am I ever going to finish that book? Don't even get me started on Ada, or Ardor...
My dad has finally gotten himself some free time as well and has himself run out of books...Which puts me in an awkward spot...I love my daddy and all...but I hate lending out my books...especially ones that I haven't read yet. I have a feeling he'd love The Barrytown Trilogy, but I have't gotten to it yet so...boo on him. And even lending him books that I've already read, I get a little anxious...what if he makes more creases in the paperback's binding? Those are my creases. I don't want his creases too....As it stands, I brought down Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, and A Star Called Henry for when he finishes the book that mommy got him yesterday despite the fact I'm not sure he'll like any of them. I know there's not much he can do to Extremely Loud, but the other two are paperbacks and that makes me cringe...
I know it sounds silly, but I get a bit protective of my books. Especially around him....considering he CONTINUES to deny breaking my copy of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets...
Riddle me this, Batman: Why is the closest movie theater to my house so shitty?
Succasunna blows. The concessions stand is slow, the popcorn is stale, the seats are uncomfortable...but the nearest better theater is about 45 minutes away in East Hanover.
My new stab at the Succasunna Clearview comes from the fact that their lineup makes me want to cry. They've got "Little Man," "Miami Vice," and "John Tucker Must Die," but no "Scoop" or "Clerks 2." I think Jason and I are going to the movies tonight, and I might ask if he wants to go out to East Hanover. The only movie playing at Succasunna that I want to see is "Lady in the Water," but Jason's already seen that...
Damnit....
Kevin Smith vs Good Morning America movie critic Joel Siegel
There are Good Jobs, and then there are Bad Jobs.
"Respected and well paid movie critic" falls under the catagory of Good Job. You get paid assloads of money to watch movies in private screenings with only other polite and interested people and then write what you think about it. What could be sweeter?
Apparently that just wasn't good enough for Joel Seigel. At what point in your easy-as-pie career do you decide you get to pick what you review. For movie critics, that should never happen. They gotta watch the turkeys like the rest of us. Think of it as penance for the fact that your job is to be entertained.
I won't say that I think Kevin Smith's reaction was entirely appropriate...I'm sure he could have made his point much more eloquently and without bringing M. Night Shamalan (an innocent civilian in this war if you ask me) in to this. But pretty much Joel Siegel has forgotten just how lucky he is.
There are bad jobs out there. If you've climbed to the top of an insanely sweet field like movie reviews, don't be a dick and act like people somehow owe you something. There are people out there who have *real* problems at their jobs.
Music: Green Day - Welcome to Paradise
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

.............

I want to travel again.

That's all there is to it. I've been out in the world now and...the idea that I may never go on a great big trip again just isn't something I can deal with. If I had the option, I would get on a plane to somewhere tomorrow. Somewhere with cool weather...not so much sun...humidity, meh, I can take it....

Right now, I want to leave the office, pack a bag, and head to Ireland, or Scotland, or some other slightly murky country in Northern Europe with castles and rain. The wanderlust is getting bad...I'm out of things to do for the day, so I started looking up flights....It's not so very expensive to get to Dublin...and I know there are some nice hostels there for pretty cheap...

But who am I kidding...I can't go by myself. I'm not that tough. I'm going to want people there with me to enjoy things too. I wish we could all just go on a trip together, but life is such a barrier to that. We all have jobs, budgets, commitments that we can back out of...Jetting off in to the wild blue yonder's a little out of reach at the moment.

Plus, not that I don't love you guys to death but planning a big trip across the Ocean and keeping things together once we get there...really just isn't our style. Shit, we can't even plan things for three days in advance, let alone weeks long trips planned maybe years ahead of time. It's not in the cards. There are so many things I wish I could do with my friends, but...wishes are just that.

Meanwhile, I'll just be happy if Giffen and Box let me know if we're playing Legends tonight or not. You gotta take the victories that are within reach.

Dear Ejoyce,
I dont know... we've had some pretty fun trips (aka Rome... Barcelona...) that we students planned on our own... On that note that means you should take choice a (lauren) or choice b (chelsea)with you so they can both plan it and keep it together for you

ISS station braces for 'loud' Japanese space suit

Look...I know this guy's rich and all...but all I'm saying is that there is a time and a place for CosPlay...and the International Space Station is not it...

P.S - What's with all this stuff going in to space all of a sudden? This Japanese dude's going on a space vacation, some lady from the U.S is going on a space vacation...Hell, they're even sending Scotty from Star Trek in to space!

Are we just, like, done with the important stuff in space and now we can get around to stuff like this? Man...if I were a trained astronaut I'd be kinda pissed. They trained so long and so hard for this...and now some guy is going to be hanging around their space station dressed like a friggin' cartoon...

I love you, Google. And I mean that from the bottom of my little heart.

I'm still working on the computere here at work. Turns out Windows has a few more updates to install, so I don't want to start a new document only to have to reboot the computer. More importantly, I'm setting up Google Desktop. Holy shit this thing is cute. You can get like...maps...and weather...and a little Sudoku game...not that I like Sudoku, but it's an option...Oh and there's the little flowerpot that you can water....And a calculator, a fishtank, a view of earth from space, quote of the day, a stylized clock, a birdie, an international clock, more calenders than you can shake a digital stick at, package tracker, a map of the London Underground, Bible passages, Quoran passages, currency trackers, tic tac toe, job search links, traffic reports, lottery results, and something called "Noodle Timer" which counts down from up to three minutes and lets you know when your 60cent Cup O' Ramen is done so you can quickly get back to downloading more shit for your Google Desktop.

Hooray progress.

Today Miss Romero made me yell at people.

That's the simple version.

Basically I had to strong arm a financial institution in to actually...you know...doing it's job and releasing money to Chizuko's estate. While I was on the phone, I could tell the guys I was talking to were no older than me, but I still had to give them shit. I mean come on. They sent their original response to the entirely wrong address and then proceeded to mess up Miss Romero's name three times. I can't tell you how many times I had to spell out loud today.

Otherwise, the big thing going on is that I turn 22 on Saturday. No idea what I'm actually going to do on the day, but Sunday I'm going in to the city with my family and the Panepintos. I'm excited to see them, and we're also going to Tavern on the Green which is a really beautiful restaurant.

Well...that's it...Work in the morning, so a good night's sleep is in order.

I'm getting trusted with more stuff at work....Holy shit this law thing is hard.

Speaking of law stuff, I think tonight is my last night of class. Maybe...I don't know...I can't find my calender right now.

But back to the job, I got to do actual legal research yesterday. It was really interesting and I think I genuinely understood what I was looking at and how it applied to our case. Today was more chill, with me mainly being a headache to this opposing attorney. And I don't think that our most high-paying client likes me very much. I really appreciate that Raquel gave me bad news to introduce myself with.

Also, none of our normal clients want to talk to me. Apparently they don't think I "really" speak Spanish, for one thing, but they also just seem generally leery of me. As Marilen pointed out afterward, I am very very white. This is apparently becoming a career obstacle. Did manage to help a few people out though with finding lawyers that actually took the types of cases they needed.

I'll close this post out by giving a shoutout to A in Japan, and saying thanks to V for the early birthday card...and I promise I'll work on getting a comments function on this layout....whore....

YouTube - (TheBlueState.com) Jon exposes Senator Stevens on neutrality

lol, Daily Show.

Not that he's really breaking new ground on making fun of Ted Stevens. Just listening to that speech is comedy gold! Heehee...tubes....

I've also noticed that I'm watching much more TV lately. I've been catching episodes here and there of old school Star Trek. Holy shit...this show is fantastically bad. The episode on right now has this kid who has had nothing but dramatic and ominous music cues following him the whole time. Golly gee I wonder if he could possibly go insane and put the whol ship in danger later!? Hooray for cheesey sci-fi.

Final thoughts: I fail at making socks and I think Shatner might be wearing eyeshadow in this one.

Music: The Romantics - What I Like About You
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What a day.
I'm getting more and more work on my desk at work lately.It's starting to get crazy and I'm not entirely sure what the processes are half the time, but I must be getting results. My special skill = dictation. I kick ass at typing and listening.
I was also supposed to go to LSAT class tonight, but an hour long traffic jam on Route 10 and the fact that I forgot my lesson book led me to say "fuck it" to the whole process. I pulled in to some random strip mall I'd never been to turn around, when lo-and-behold on the sign listing the shops...There's a comic book shop! I've been trying to find the back issues of a series that just started and this one had the exact issues I was missing. Plus, it was clean, well organized, well stocked, and bright inside. I think I've found my new comic book shop. That's some luck, eh.
In other news, I've been on a crafting kick. I've been knitting a lot and got around to teaching myself how to knit with a circular needle. Actually, I would really like to learn how to quilt. Yes quilt. Now shut up. And embroider. I just like to keep my hands busy, is all.
Aaaand...that's it for the movie on TV. Damn. I'd forgotten just how good "Se7en" was. It's nearly time to go to sleep, but I always read before bed and I'd feel a little weird reading American Psycho right after watching that movie. Just a bit too dark of an evening...
I'll just knit for a while longer, then. I'm making socks!
At work.
I like it a lot here. I'm so suprised at just how well this job is going. I like all the people I'm working with. My job isn't all too terribly difficult. And I discovered something I like a lot about the building itself.
It sounds awesome in the rain.
It's a very large, empty office, so the echo of the pouring rain sounds amazing. And the thunder is even better.
I've always liked thunderstorms. When I was little my dad used to take me out in to the garage and we's watch the lightning strike. Mom was never such a fan of that, but it kept me from ever being afraid of a storm. While all my friends were hiding under their beds, I thought the five year old's equivalent of "SWEET!"
Better get back to work now. Slow day since Mrs. Romeo isn't in, but I still have forms to fill out.
Music: Garbage - Why do you love me?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Turns out I'm sick as a dog. But that didn't stop me from having a good day yesterday.

Went to see Pirates 2 with Marie. It was so disappointing....The first movie was so good, and they had a chance to do even better with these ones. I mean, they knew we were only seeing the movie for Jack Sparrow, right? Then what the hell was with all the other stuff? I nearly fell asleep a few times for lack of giving a damn. That and one of the first scenes touched on my two biggest fears: Birds and eyes. Of course, birds were plucking out eyes. What were the odds, eh?

Big day comic book wise, too. I finally found a decent comic book shop...too bad it's all the way in Wayne. But I got back issues of the book I wanted. Not the new issue though. And John gave me a copy of "Catwoman in Rome" in Spanish. He's got a sweet internship at DC, and international publishing is on his floor. That was very nice of him.

Did a whole lot of nothing today except going to Minado's and starting to knit what will eventually be a pair of socks. Rock on.

I'm so paranoid.

I joke about my tumble down the stairs, but in all honesty, that's about the most I've ever been hurt. I don't really do much...so I've never had any real risk in my life. Hence, broken bones and injuries have never been something I have to deal with.

Now I'm in a lot of pain...which hasn't gone down in two days. What worries me is...I'm sleepy and have a headache. It's not that late for me, but I can barely keep my eyes open. I worry that I have a concussion or something. Who the hell thinks about dying of a concussion in their sleep at my age?

How the hell did I get like this? I have so many irrational fears...and only about half of them are about concrete things. Mostly I'm just afraid of risk. I'm pretty sure I didn't hit my head when I fell, but I don't really remember much about it.

::sigh:: I can't stay up anymore. I'm not going to die. I made it through last night, so I must be fine.

I guess I just don't know how to deal with pain.

I've been thinking about Net Neutrality again and have come to the following conclusion.

Republican's no longer give a shit about capitalism.

Net Neutrality is all about allowing the site with the best services and customer satisfaction to thrive and kick it's competition to the curb...until it goes soft and something better comes along. That's it, folks! Creative destruction. The very thing that has enabled our economy to keep adapting to new theories and global market trends. Only the very best will survive.

And if the Telecoms have fallen behind? Whose fault is that? Their own, of course. The last thing they need is a government bail out to help prop up their bad business practices. What the hell happened to laizzez-faire? Do we get to simply disregard it as only applying it when we want it to? Or, rather, when someone with deep pockets wants it to.

Many people say Republicans only answer to capitalism and business. This can't possibly be the case considering their blatent disregard for the basic tenants of the Capitalism system. Giving big, bloated companies a blank check to behave badly is what has brought so many of the world's economies in to the toilet.

Capitalism is under attack, plain and simple. To some this is a blessing, but that is not my opinion. What I do think is important to take away from this situation is that no one is thinking in terms of theory anymore. Everyone in Washington D.C. has sold some of themself, and neither party is what it says it is anymore.

Now can we please put this bullshit about a tiered internet to rest?

Music: Unwritten Law - Sound Siren
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am very lucky.
There really isn't much more to say than that.
For a long time I've believed that I'm meant to do something important. I know that I may not change the world, but I feel as though my efforts in life are heading in a direction that will lead to a change forthe better on a large scale.
I'll lay it out right here. My dream is to affect a change in international policy on the trafficking of humans for the purposes of slave labor. I think it's of the utmost importance and I think it's about time there was a real dedication to it. I want to be someone who makes people think of this.
My dreams are big...And today I learned that my family really does believe in me.
We went to my Aunt's house for a barbeque/family get-together. I tend to bounce around at these things, but one of my favorite things about these functions with my mother's family is that the uncles and aunts actually listen to me. Today...they were all saying how proud they were of me...
I get a bit uncomfortable when praised too much, but...it was so nice to hear directly from my Aunts and Uncles how special they think I am...
Knowing that so many people think I can do something big...that makes me want to try harder than ever to reach my goals. I *will* get a job in the United States government. I *will knot* allow people to ignore me when I am in there. I *will* make a change for the better, even if no one ever knows that I was involved. Glory is not important. It's the work that matters.
