~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I can't friggin' believe this. I get down here just in time for North Carolina to get pwned. And I do mean pwned with a p. It's that crazy that it merits a p.
Those poor Weather Channel people. Why do they keep sending them out in the rain. There's fucking LIGHTNING. Go inside Lady-At-Myrtle-Beach! You probably have kids that want to see you come home!
Anywhoo, I'm in Raleigh now. Marie P's apartment is frickin' sweet. I'm kinda jealous that all these people are getting their own apartments and lives and stuff, meanwhile I live at home with Mommy and Daddy. It's not like I'll be there forever, but still. Makes me feel like that much more of a kid.
Drive from Greenville to Raleigh was pretty simple...NOT. Fucking Mapquest failed me again. Plus I got myself really turned around and found Marie's apartment in the most roundabout way possible. But I still made it!
Probably checking out the city itself tomorrow.
North Carolina is still way too fucking hot.
P.S - Today's color scheme...Just for you, A ;)
. . . . . .
I'm super happy to be surrounded by couples watching TV together. Really. It's great. Because. You know. I wouldn't want my visit to interrupt the status quo. After all. Nothing in the world is more important than spending as much time with your boyfriend as possible. Having guests shouldn't change that. And I'll totally not feel like a fifth wheel when the only other people in the room are also a couple. Go ahead and cuddle and talk to only eachother. There's nothing at all awkward about it for me.
. . . . . .
Because there's nothing for me to be bitter about while I'm just sitting here. It's not as though this hasn't been pretty much par for the course for me. It's not as though I don't spend a ton of time surrounded by happy couples while remaining terminally single. And it's not like I've been completely abandoned by good friends in favor of their boyfriends before.
. . . . . .
Really. I'm good. I didn't want to sit on the couch anyway. And I totally don't feel like I barged in to a perfectly good life down here and am just taking up space until I leave tomorrow.
. . . . . .
::sigh:: I'm sorry to be so bitter, but this? This sucks. I'll be out of your hair in the morning, V. Tim's a good guy. Have fun.
After nine hours in the car...I'm once again parked on my ass, but this time in an apartment. I made it to V's apartment in Greensville in one piece!...Much to my Mother's surprise...
I think she'd be much happier if I were agoraphobic. It seems like every time I want to go somewhere or do something new, she doesn't want me to do it. And then she complains that I never do anything. Grand.
So South Carolina is hot...and humid...I'm not so sure about this place's potential as a school state. I think I'm better suited for the Northern states. Perhaps I'll take closer looks at Massachusets and New York State. As much as I love Southern accents, it's just not worth the pain to my hair and skin.
As to the drive, I did great! The directions were pretty easy to follow, and I didn't get in to too much trouble. After 10 hours in the car, my ass was pretty numb, but I kept myself down to only 3 breaks.
On arrival in ECU territory, I was greated by Pad Thai. I've never had that before, but it was very very tasty. Too bad I'm fucking CRASHING now. I need to drink this Dr. Pepper. Must not pass out...before 10 pm...Still have to play...Double...Dash...zzZZzzz...
Dear Roxbury:
Please stop sucking ass and fax me the fucking form I need so I can finish my work.
XOXO Liz
Now that that's out of my system, I'd just like to say that I am irritated with the scientific community for nullifying an entire unit of Elementary School Science. I don't care if it's not "technically" a planet. You do not fire Pluto.
Ahhh...Finally. It started actually raining, as opposed to that pissy little drizzel is was doing before where you can't get a good setting on your windshield wipers toclean everything off.
****One Hour Passes****
Well nothing has changed. I can't get Roxbury to send me the damned fax and I can't get a fax out to the Elizabeth office for approval.
Trying to think of ways in which this day hasn't been a waste so far...Marilyn gave me a Snack Wrap. That was tasty and nice of her since I didn't get to grab lunch this morning...Oh yeah...umm..wait never mind. Going to the bank was shitty too because the chick at the window just walked off for 10 minutes before depositing my check.
Gotta think of *something* positive...Ah! It's Friday. So I'm going to try and actually see people tonight. Maybe I'll start making calls while I wait on Roxbury. Oh. And my hair looks good today. That counts toward keeping positive, right?
Meh. I hate blogging without direction.
Music: Johnny Cash - Folsom Prison Blues
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I'm such a failure this week. I haven't gotten in to work before 11 at all this week. And I can only honestly say that one of the days was not my fault...Fucking landscapers.

I also almost took off this guy's car door on the way in to work this morning. I had to take epic evasive action to avoid it. It's almost like he was waiting for a car to come by to open his door. Hah...then he probably would have come in to this office for help with the lawsuit...bastard.

Yesterday was spent in preparation for Tuesday's roadtrip. Bought some gifts for those I'll be crashing with. Oh. And a very vague roadmap of the East Coast. Thanks so much, Borders, for having such a pathetic map selection. And a milkshake.

I also had to swing by my comic book store to ask if they could do me a favor. Practically everything I read is coming out next week while I'll be in NC, so I asked the owner (who was behind the counter that day) if they could hold some books for me. That's right...I now have a pull list. I am officially an ubergeek. I wrote out the list and the store's owner teased me a bit about the fact that, apparently all the really big books were new this week, but here I was waiting for, like four second or third string titles.

What can I say? I don't like things that are too popular, I guess. After all, back in the day I was a hardcore Yellow Ranger fan...

Back to the shop, I gotta say I like that place. The owner is about my mom's age and clearly living his dream. All the employees seem to be friends of his, and he knows a lot of his clientel by name. Also, unlike Hero Town in Ledgewood, I see girls buying comics in there. That makes me feel less awkward, for one thing, and also confirms that I'm probably not the only one who's gotten the feeling that Hero Town isn't really...female-friendly. I've been going there for years and they *still* don't seem too thrilled about my presence there.

Now that I think about it, I'm really starting to set myself up here. I have my friends, my stores, my job...and in one year I'm going to be saying goodbye to them to start all over again in Law School. Not that I'm wavering about going. Reading the news makes me more determined than ever that I need to get in gear and make a difference. Just now...I realize I'm going to be leaving a lot behind.

Quick update!

I apparently fail at cell phone.

Anyone who tried to call me within the last...probably three days, I apologize. I did not hear it die and turn off. And I still won't know what anyone said to me until I get home.

Watch. No one will have called me and I'll feel all useless.

Things are still good over here.

And I'm kinda surprised by that.

I really slacked off on LSAT study after the class ended, but I did some hyper practice the other day and it turns out I'm still about where I was on skill level. Reading Comprehansion is still my bitch, and I still fail at Sequencing games. Pretty much par for the course.

Also, and I had trouble believing this, I've lost hella weight since I graduated. No joke. Between having time to exercise, less stress, and consistent access to non-ramen-based foods, I'm doing pretty good.

I've also hit my target $$ amount. It's not much, but it makes me feel comfortable to spend normally while...

...I'm on vacation in North Carolina! Yep. I got my vacation days, and on the 29th I'll be leaving at the ass-crack of dawn for a 9 hour drive to see V in Greensville. Vanessa...I swear to God...If there is no room for me and I end up scrambling for living quarters like we did in Toronto...There shall be death. There will be no Irene ex machina to say you this time. Just saying :) XOXOXO

After visiting V for awhile, I'm gonna go see Marie P in Raliegh where she has her first ever apartment. Couple days down there, hopefully doing something awesome for her birthday, maybe even going to look at the schools down there. See if North Carolina would be as good a place for me as it seems to be for the rest of New Jersey (NC is basically NJ in exile).

I'm striving to get back to Jersey at a reasonable time on the 4th so I can head right back to work on the 5th. I know the car ride will be a bit ronery, but I've got enough stuff on the ol' iPod to hold me over. Plus, a few breaks here and there will help the sanity.

Back to work.

Happy "Snakes on a Plane" Day, everyone!

Oh yes. I certainly was there at the 10:00 show last night. I was seeing these packs of teenage boys pour in to the theater, which ended up being happily full rather than crowded.

I can honestly say that Snakes on a Plane was a blast to watch. Being there in the theater with other rowdy people, everyone yelling "Oh shit!" when a snake bit someone...Cheering when Samuel L. Jackson came on screen for the first time...Cheering at particularly good kills...Laughing at "snake-o-vision"...And of course saying the big lines together. It was a great movie experience.

But beside that...It wasn't a bad movie. It was funny, and scarey at parts, and generally a blast. Same vein as Shaun of the Dead, really.

Not too much else to say. Snakes on a Motherfucking Plane and all that.

Quick update: Marilen brought me Jellenos (fried potato thingers with meat inside) and they are frigging amazing.

Okay. First of all: This "Wild Berry" Powerbar? WORST IDEA I'VE EVER HAD.

On to bigger and better things, I'm alone in the office again. After having done this for a week, it's not so bad, but it's just a really bad day for it. Today's new comic book day, for one. Also, I wanted to make sure I got home for awhile before going to the gym so I could say hi to my Godmother. Haven't seen her in a long time.

Just got a call from one of the lawyers. Why does everyone always seem surprised that I come in every day? I like money, people! I need it to pay for my nearly non-existant social life...

A! A! A is online! Damnit I need to get off the phone....

This is so lame. I have until 5:00 to do two things. And one of them is super nebulous and makes little to no sense...On top of that, it's important. So yeah...

In book news, Son of a Witch is not as bad as I thought it would be, but it's not as good as Wicked. And my Dad is reading A Star Called Henry. I'm curious if he likes it or not, since it's one that I really like. I just hope he doesn't hate it an think I have terrible tast in books.

I'm too efficient for my own paycheck.

I've got nothing to do. Believe me. I've tried to find stuff. I'm even faxing over a list of files that I have to the Elizabeth office so they can tell me if there's anything to be done with them. Probably not...I don't want to sit here wasting the boss's money paying me to sit on my ass and blog, but...I need money. I want to take a trip at the end of the month (visit V and Marie in North Carolina), so I need to make sure I have the cash.

I think this job is going well, and I do my work well. I don't think I'll get fired...

In other news, "Pulse" causes cancer.

Man...My nails are getting really messy...

Maybe I'll make my ramen...It's noon, after all. That's really lunchtime...

God I'm wasting time.

So yesterday I spent the whole day stamping numbers on pages.

It was kind of soothing in a repetative way. Gave me dead arm, though (I had to press down hard on the stamp, plus I had to stap over 1,000 times...No exaggeration).

But the story here is that I know more about the guy whose file I was stamping than i ever wanted to. Case and point: I wanted to kinda know what the documents I was stamping were (I'm here to learn, after all), so I was giving them a little once over before I sent them to the "stamped" pile. There was one medical doument in table format were on the left was the heading and on the right was a fill in the blank section for diagnosis and things like that. Mainly the right side looked like a lump of text to me since I was starting to go blind with monotony at this point.

I hit this one page...On the left I saw "Condition"...On the right, amid the blurry small text...I saw a very scary handwritten word:

"Cockburn"

I almost spit up my coffee in horror. 'What the hell kind of workers comp case is this!?' I thought, 'And why would a doctor be so...blunt!?'

Sure enough, turns out that was just the doctor's name. The client's medical problem was in no way related to the singeing of boy-parts. But it still has me thinking...

Damn...That doctor must have gotten teased to shit back in middle school...

.......I'm scared......

I don't want to be translator...this man looks angry and he's been waiting for 45 minutes....All I'm supposed to do is translate between one of the lawyers and this guy but...I don't think I'm ready. Spain Spanish is completely different than anything spoken in this state. I don't know if I want my choppy translations of this guy's statements going on an official document. Neither of the lawyers seem too nervous, but...Well...I've always been a walking bundle of neurosis.

I'm going to the mall after work today. Not that I need anything...I just need to find my comfort zone. More than anything I want to throw on my headphones and listen to something nice and comforting...Oh well...not much I can do now...

The lawyer better get here fast...this dude looks like he's about to explode....

NOOOO! Not Galicia!

Whatever motherfuckers decided to set fire to those beautiful forests can rot in hell. It's one of the only parts of Spain that has real forests and tree cover, so clearly it needed to get set on fuckin' fire...Or not.

Man...Friday means so much more when you have a job. I can't even tell you how stoked I am to go home and play...something...at 5. And I'm leaving right at 5. Not 5:15 like yesterday. 5.

But yesterday was busy. I like being busy, though. It's days like this where I know the only that's going to happen is that people are going to come in and ask me questions that I can't answer that drive me nuts. I know that there's no way I could know this stuff since I've only been here about a month, but it still makes me feel useless.

I'm a helper. I like to help. When I can't help, it makes me sad.

The other thing about this job is that people are always looking in at me through the doors. It's like living in a fishbowl. I think one of these days I'm gonna just start waving at people...

...There is a huge open space on the other side of this office. We only take up less than half of the building area we're in. The landlord is trying to sell the dead space and put up a wall. Maybe that would be for the best since I keep getting these urges to go do cartwheels over there...just to break the monotony...

I still have phone calls to make today. One fella, who suffered a really bad, three storie fall at work needs to come in to answer some questions. My job is to get him to come in on Tuesday, and when he does come in, Mr. Caruso wants me to act as translator....I don't know if I can do it...I've been told he speaks MumbleSpanish...MumbleSpanish is my great weakness...And the things he's going to be saying are important but....Well Marilen will be back by then and she can help maybe.

Attention, Sophie! I know you're out there! I need your email address so I can send you my snail mail address. If you don't know my email, it's @gmail.com with my user name as elizabeth.joyce

Once I hear from you, I'll be removing that part. Friggin' spam programs will find a way to crack my "brilliant code."

Well, time to make a sign for the front door. After that, the only thing left to do is face down the MumbleSpanish...then I'll just...I dunno...send inane text messages to Giffen or somthing...Maybe finish my book...

Oh, and for those interested: Oh, Play That Thing is nowhere near as good as A Star Called Henry.

Second verse, Same as the first!

The basic idea, translated from Spanish, of the 10 phone calls I've received so far today:

Me: "Good afternoon. Law office"
Caller: "Uhm...yes...is doctor Romero in?"
Me: "I'm sorry. This is a lawyer's office."
Caller: "Yes. The doctor. May I speak to her please?"
Me: "::awkward pause::...Lawyer?"
Caller: "Yes. Doctor."
Me: ".....One moment please. I'll transfer you to her...."

I swear that the words for Doctor and Lawyer are different...Is this a regional thing or am I dumb, or is the difference not altogether important to some people.

Onward to Best Buy!

Finally...Finally! After years of asking for a new desktop computer...I have one. And no, I don't feel badly about using my mother's desire to shop on eBay as an excuse to get a computer. My laptop just can't take it anymore.

Now I have this lovely, shiney new machine in the basement and I've already started installing my games on it. Now I can pick up some more Sims 2 expansion packs. Between that and the fact that I want to get World of Warcraft after the LSATs, I'm not going to be having much of a life now.

Thanks, Dell!
