Work acheived a new level of stupid yesterday.

My boss insisted that I should be able to use our multifunction copier's scanning function without any cables. I said I didn't see how it would be possible without an ethernet cable, but she was adamant that it could be done....

I spent something to the tune of four hours working on this, with over an hour spent on the phone to the tech support guy who, at the end went "What do you mean you don't have an ethernet cable!? Of course this isn't going to work!" I was furious and didn't get a very good night's sleep last night because of it.

I tried mellowing out once I got home, but for some reason my mom seems to have a sixth sense about when I'm in a lousy mood and on edge. Hence an inescapable conversation about why I spend so much time on the computer and why she never sees me doing anything for my law school applications. Just because she always seems to come down when I'm taking a break from essay writing to play some Sims 2 or something doesn't mean I haven't been doing anything else. And the more I tell her I don't want to talk about it the more insistant she is. Her timing is terrible and I almost told her to go to hell yesterday. 22 years later and she still can't trust me to do anything for myself.

Once I finally got rid of her I decided to practice using circular knitting needles. The repetetiveness of knitting usually helps me relax, but I was still just too pissed off to calm down. I have, however, gotten quite good with the needles and now have something vaguely resembling the beginnings of a hat.

Now I'm back at work and, since I have a few errands to run up on route 10 today, I know there is going to be some kind of douchebagery relating to the copier happening today. It always works out that way.

As for the immediate future, I have a few finishing touches to put on personal statement #6 before sending that one and the only other promising candidate (#3) to the Bucknell pre-law advisor to look at. By then Marilyn should be in and I can find out if I'm going and picking up the Goddamned ethernet cable today.
