Music: The Living End - Growing Up ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hope everyone had a great holiday! Still New Years coming up so that's something to look forward to!
Christmas was great. I spent the morning of the 24th making the best chocolate chocolate chip cookies EVAR with my dad. Then he took the rest of the day to make a really great prime rib and even Yorkshire pudding, which he's been promising to make for me since 1993...Yes I remember the weirdest things. Moving on.
Christmas Day everyone was in agood mood, even when we went to see the rest of the family. I'm lucky that my family generally gets along, but this year it went really really well. I embarassed myself at Guitar Hero (my cousin Enrica is very good at that game) and had a blast playing Wii Sports (I totally see how people are utterly destroying themselves and their homes with this game).
On Christmas Eve I also managed to finish the Kitty Hat I was making. That was nice. Now I'm working on the ever imposing sweater project. I'm like halfway done with the back. That's pretty sweet. I'll probably ADD out and start five new projects before it's done, but I'm off to a good start.
Work is stressing me out...I dunno man....

Music: Flogging Molly - Black Friday Rule ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So I was so residually angry yesterday that I haven't mentioned all the good things that are going on. Let's fix that.
First of all, I got my mom an awesome gift for Christmas. It was a little expensive, but I have a paycheck and very few expenses so whatever. The only downside is that I might end up sacrificing that gift to my father so he doesn't look like a moron on Christmas Day. The poor guy just can't do anything right by my mom. She never likes what he gets her, so this year I'm going with him to try and find something. Basically I'm going to be doing all the work, but I'm forcing him to come along. Maybe I'll even make him let me drive his sweet car to the mall. That'd rock. I still need to get him his gift...I know what I want to get him, but I just don't know where I'll find it.
Then there are the people who are just impossible to shop for. Rar.
On an awesome note, I am finally going to see Flogging Molly in concert. Not until March 9, but it goes toward undoing the wrongs of Giffen who did not think of me first when he had an extra ticket to see the band I fucking introduced him to...Not that I'm bitter...Okay yeah I am bitter but I get to hold irrational grudges...I'm a girl, after all.
Knitting a new hat. It's going to be sweet. It's blue and fuzzy. It's totally worth the scaley patch of skin on the inside of my right middle finger that I've gotten from knitting too tightly.

Music: Epoxies - Stop the Future ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had a truly bad day at work yesterday.
I went in to the Elizabeth office to do some actual document work...This one case...I should never have read the file...I should have just done the subpoena and been done with it...
But no...Instead I read page after page of police reports and victim testimony about this horrible man we were fighting in a divorce case. He's got so much money...but he won't provide for his five children...three of whom are disabled because of how severely he beat their mother while she was pregnant...
And his accountant is even evil. We need to subpoena him, and when i called to confirm his address....well...I don't really want to write what he said to me. My temper flared up, and I said something rather unkind about his mother, but it never reached his level.
Evil surrounding itself with evil.
I didn't sleep well last night. I did more digging on the Evil Accountant and found all sorts of interesting factoids. We'll get him. I hope he fights the subpoena. I really do. That way he'll have to go to jail.
The abusive husband...Goddamnit I just want to write his name in BIG BOLD LETTERS on this blog...Hand out his address...the name of his business. I want him to pay...But if I do something like that it could hurt our case, and I'm not willing to do that...
However, if you were to, say, ask me individually about EDITED SO I DON'T GET FIRED OR SUED...I suppose that would be okay...

Ireland Rejects Lesbian Marriage
. . . . . . .
DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHH
As wonderful a time as I had in Ireland, and as much as I would like to go spend more time there, I fully acknowledge that some of their laws are...less than progressive...
Homosexuality was illegal until 1993 Civil divorce was illegal until 1995 and only passed by 9,000 votes in a nationwide referrendum Witchcraft is still punishable with jailtime
Look...It's getting better, just like everywhere but....I'm mean come on ladies, I agree with you, but saying you had a snowball's chance in hell of getting this through is an insult to the fortitude of the snowball....

Music: Wilco - Say You Miss Me ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I think my boss is some kind of psychic.
It seems like every time I want to try and get ot early to run some errands or I'm not feeling well, she needs me to stay later than usual.
Today, it's both problems. I still need to get a birthday gift for Ben on top of the rest of my Christmas shopping, and I think my cousin got me sick. She had, like...SARS...or something when she was over for the party on Sunday, and if there is anyone near me even kinda sick, I will catch it. That's just how it is. So of course I need to stay until closing. I have a massive headache and I could fall asleep at any second...fuck...
When I feel like this, all I want is to curl up and relax. I'm really trying to keep it together, but the Tylenol I took hasn't kicked in yet or something. I'm not doing so great over here. And of course Jason's home for the Holidays so of course I don't feel like going anywhere.
Last night I was in the fetal position in my basement under a blanket when I decided to make a big mistake...I decided to try and draw out my own knitting pattern. It's nothing fancy, just going to try and put a different color picture design in to a kerchif, but I still have a feeling it's going to end horribly. Not like I'm going to be super mobile for awhile, so I may as well try.
However, if this does work...Man will it be sweet

I'm on the record as saying it would take a "Jesus/Budda 08" campaign to stop a McCain/ Guliani ticket from going all the way.
I take that back. All you need is Obama.
Even the super-bitter BBC guy loves him! Everyone who listens to him loves Obama!
HAHAHA! Hillary is so fucked.

Music: John Lennon - Love ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have been so bad about going to the gym lately. There's just so much other stuff I want to be doing, though.
Yesterday I went shopping and got myself new guitar picks (the ones that came with my cousin's guitar are qay to flimsy for my tastes) and a book to teach myself. It's actually very good! I've figured out 5 notes so far, and can actually read a tab now!
I spent basically all day yesterday learning new things. I worked on the guitar for like an hour (so fun!) then started reading through this knitting book I bought. It's got a lot of fun patterns and instructions that my first "Teach Yourself" book doesn't have. I can now look at those little grid thingies and make patterns and pictures in my knitting. And lo there shall be a reckoning! You're all in big trouble now. The little heart pattern I made in the swatch I was working on is awesome.
I also looked in to more stuff on Law School. Apparently, according to LSAC, I have no hope in hell of getting in to NYU or the Washington DC schools. Oh well. I'm still gonna apply.
I need to go to the gym today. I'm sure as hell not gonna do it tomorrow. That's new comic book day.

Music: Cherry Poppin Daddies - Brown Derby Jump ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Couple new developments. We had family over for brunch yesterday. 15 people. Two cooks. All short order food like pancakes and scrambled eggs. It was made exceptionally clear to my mother (who had come up with this almost unworkable idea) that any criticism about how little time my father and I spent away from the stove would be met with screams and possibly the gnashing of teeth. Just because the food is simple to make, doesn't mean it makes the party any easier. Short-order cooking is hard. But we had a good day regardless, thanks to the fact that our kitchen is open to the rest of the family room, so we could still interact with guests between pancake turns.
Mom still complained that it wasn't the perfect party she had wanted, but that's about par for the course.
Also, I got a guitar. I've wanted to learn to play for a while now (who doesn't?), and my Aunt Jill just had one sitting around her house (my cousin quit and never touches the thing). Played around for awhile, realizing that I have no innate skill. I also managed to give myself a nice little cut from the strings. Rock out.

Music: Dropkick Murphys - Shipping up to Boston ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Urg. Today is not a day for productivity. It's too damned cold. Unfortunately I *have* to get to the mall. I've done zero Christmas shopping to this point and I also have to get my friend a birthday gift for the party next week.
And of course I've chosen to do this shit on a Friday...in December. I'm so smart.
I want to go home and curl up with my knitting to keep warm. It's 21 degrees out here not factoring in wind chill, so I'm not just being melodramatic. Weather like this just makes you want to hide.
We're having family over for brunch on Sunday and I'm really hoping it doesn't turn in to some kind of post Thanksgiving epilogue brawl. But at least there will be tasty food involved.
I'm having trouble thinking of things to do with the rest of my day. I'd go to the gym, but it's just too cold. I'd hit the post office, but it's just too cold. I'd go get some Burger King, but its just too fucking cold.
Back to scanning. This is gonna be a short day for me. I can tell.

Music: Fountains of Wayne - Sink to the Bottom ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yesterday we had a breakthrough. I have a job again, basically. The scanner finally works, so I can start archiving. My boss is so stoked you have no idea.
I got some good hours in yesterday, then headed for the gym. The unfortunately my car was in the shop for a mysterious leak that only my mother could see, so I was driving the SUV around. I absolutely hate driving my mom's car. I can't tell how fast I'm going and I'm always worried I'm gonna roll the damned thing. However, I was not the problem yesterday. Considering I almost got in to three separate head on collsions with people driving too fast down the middle of the road, I have come to the conclusion that everyone else but me is a terrible driver.
After the gym I got a call from my mother that there were two myterious black trash bags at the end of our driveway. Between my mother's constant paranoia and all the Law & Order/CSI she watches, I'm sure sure was convinced that there were body parts in them or something. She ended up calling the cops "for advice" and they sent someone out to check the bags.
They were full of leaves. We were victims of a drive-by curbside pickup violation.
The cops took the bags, too. Knowing how little our local cops have to do, they're probably gonna, like, fingerprint the bags or something.
Littering is a crime, after all.

Music: Less Than Jake - Mr. Chevy Celebrity ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Political Pundit Guy Makes Idiotic Comment, People Suprised For Some Reason
Basically this guys thinks that bringing a bible to get sworn in to Congress is REALLY important. So important that one should simply not being Congress unless they're willing to do so. By this logic, putting you're hand on the bible for a time honored photo-op is more important that taking an oath on symbol of where your heart is.
Buh?
I read the guy Prager's original column. In addition to being sloppily written (transitional phrases are your friends), he basically uses the justification that "everyone else uses the bible so you should too." That's not a very persuasive argument in our individualistic society. So let's try again. He also cites that Washington did it. Okay, but Washington was probably recreating a Masonic ceremony in which you can bring whatever book was most important to you. Alright buddy...third swing make it a good one...Okay he say that the bible is that which "America holds as its holiest book."
. . . . . .
We're...It's not....That isn't how it works. There's....What the fuck is wrong with this guy?
We're a secular state with diverse religious viewpoints all around the country. No one book gets to be so Number 1 that it's the only one we can use. That's the point of a secular state. He tries one more time with the statement that America was built on the bible. Not quite. If the swearing in photo-op had anything to do with using the book that built America, it would probably be Thomas Payne's Common Sense, or the Collected Works of John Locke. Or hell let's just use a copy of the US Consitution! That's would make a lot more sense than using a religious text in the swearing in of a secular government!
Sorry, Prager. Your paper gets a D. I just can't find it in my heart to hand out F's to anyone less than neo-nazi puppy-kickers....
...but you came close for sheer idiot points.

Music: Stereophonics - Since I Told You It's Over ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well the copier is working, but I still feel a little nervous about my job. I can't help but worry that she'll find me redundant to someone already working for her and BAM no more job.
It's especially tight for me money-wise since (a) it's Christmas season, and (b) I just cleaned out most of my bank account setting up a retirement account. Literally, my checking account has been more than halved. I need to watch my money.
But I got a good sign the other day. NYU sent me a big information packet in the mail. I don't know if they send that to everyone who took the LSATs, but the fact that they were willing to waste postage on me is heartening.
And now I have a little bit of work to do, so...
