Cake - Opera Singer ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We had a bit of a crisis in my family regarding Thanksgiving. Short story, my mother threw a pouty fit about the fact that we might need to go to my Aunt Jill's house for Thanksgiving (like we do almost every year) because her house is so croweded and they smoke and the turkey's dry and blah blah fuckin' blah. So when the opportunity to go to my Aunt Nancy's much less crowded house came up, she took the chance but still felt blech about the whole affair. "Thanksgiving is pointless anyway. No one gives thanks for anything. We're just waiting for it to be over so we can start Christmas."
I got a little offended by that. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. Just because I don't make a huge stinking deal about it doesn't mean I don't give thanks. For instance, here are just a few of the things I'm thankful for:
- The fact that I have a nice warm winter coat - That my parents keep supporting me even though they question how productive I'm being - That I can speak to my parents as an adult without them getting huffy - The 18 years I spent with my doggy - That I have fun hobbies - All of the people who made my time at Bucknell so much fun - The friends I've had for around about 8 years now - The friendship I've had for 22 years - Pretzels - The fact that I have a job - The fact that no one in my family is seriously ill right now - The fact that someone somewhere must be having a good day - Quick Check coffee - All the people who are my family, regardless of lack of blood or marital connection - That my friend all have something that makes them happy
And that's just what I've thought of *today.* Thanksgiving's a great holiday. Christmas can wait a few more days.
