My mother is gone for a week....

I think my father and I have started to go feral.

It started out well. We had a good meal on Sunday. Dad was gonna cook until he threw his back out, so I ended up making dinner. It was fun and no disasters this time.

Then...housework set in.

My mom has a lot of plants outside...plants that need watering. It takes a minimum of half an hour to do all of that. Then there's cat management, meaning letting him out, changing his food and water, getting him back in the hosue, etc. Getting him to come in is another half hour task...little shit...if we wanted an animal we had to let outside, why didn't we just get another dog?

Today I also have to clean the bathtub, vacume, do some laundry so we have enough towels to last until Monday, and take out the recycling.

Have you noticed a pattern yet? In case you didn't, I'll point it out. In none of those sentences did you see the word "we." That's because my father has done jack all. Oh wait. He emptied the dish washer once. Whoop de friggin do. If he doesn't help me take the recycling out tonight, there is going to be hell to pay. I've never done the recycling before, so if he doesn't pitch in, it'll take me hours. Mom's so used to it that it only takes her a few minutes at this point.

I guess this just proves how little credit I give her....well....Lemme rephrase that. I always knew that she did a whole hell of a lot around the house and I appreciate that....I just never realized how much effort it takes to pack all that in to one day with zero help.

Kudos, ma. Now hurry back home before Dad runs out of shirts. I'm not washing his nasty, cigarette smelling clothes and I get the impression that if he tried to do it himself he might blow up the washing machine.
