Music: Epoxies - Stop the Future ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Buckle up. This one's gonna be long and disjointed...
First of all, I cooked yesterday. I love cooking and really wish I did it more often. I decided yesterday that I wanted pesto so badly I'd just make it myself. We just got the Everyday Italian cookbook, so I'd even have Giatta's directions as a safety net. Pesto's so simple that most people just make it off the top of their head. At least, that's what my dad does.
When I told him I wanted to cook he called dibs on going to the grocery store for pine nuts and stuff...grocery shopping is the only excuse he can use to justify to himself taking a break from work. So when he came back from the store with all these nice fresh ingredients I was all set to get to work.
It was a fucking disaster. I hadn't used NEARLY enough basil, the pine nuts weren't toasted enough, and I made a mess out of the blender. The end result: Really salty green oil. Dad came down to check on me and make sure I hadn't set the house on fire and I must have looked like someone had cancelled my birthday. After a few nudges to use the food processor not the blender, be more conservative with the garlic, and wait to add salt until after I'd added the cheese, I ended up with a MUCH better pesto. That second time was fun. I'd like to do it again. We had the pesto over some penne pasta and a bit of bread on the side. Tasty dinner after the second shot.
Also yesterday, I made it to the toe portion of the sock I've been making. I'm super excited. I don't post much about my knitting on this blog because I know it's pretty dull stuff to the majority of the world. I try to keep it on this one, but I wanted to share.
Lastly, and not at all related to anything above, I am worried about my birthday. The 22nd falls on a Sunday, which is pretty nice but there's one little thing....
The last Harry Potter Book comes out at Midnight the 21st. Harry Potter Day is on my birthday. What in the name of fuzzy kittens am I going to do with that? When I thought that Harry Potter Day was going to be the 20th in to the 21st I was like "hey no problem I can finish the book in time for my birthday"....Now it's one day off and I'm absolutely stuck on what I'm gonna do. I know I'm going to want to do stuff for my birthday...but Harry Potter Day....
I was planning on going in to total media deprivation until I finished it so as to avoid spoilers, but I don't know how well that's going to work. By the grace of Starbucks I even intended to go the midnight opening. Little kids having fun are cute, and seeing cute things would make a good start to my birthday. I'm also wondering if I can take my anti-douchebag campaign off the highways and in to the bookstore. I was thinking of bringing an air horn in case anyone tries to pull a "Snape kills Dumbledore" in the Borders. Douchebag vs Airhorn usually results in Douchebag shutting up about whatever they were on about and switching to "Oh my God what the hell is wrong with you oh my bleeding ears."
The moral of this post is "Be socially corteous or someone may assault your eardrums with presurized air."
